I guess some of these questions would bother intelligent christians who have not a well integrated belief system. They show rather that the author is not well acquainted with good christian scholarship.

I agree that the video does not shatter belief in a christian god. I disagree with your Big Bang example however. What we observe in the universe makes much more sense with the assumption that the Big Bang happened, and when we assume the opposite many "unreasonable rationalizations" are necessary to cling to it.

In the end, it's all about what you personally believe. I see this video as a decent articulation of why the author believes what he does. There is no proof, just what makes the most sense to you based on your view of the universe and this pale blue dot.

I'm not a Christian myself, but if I were, these arguements wouldn't be as compelling as the narrator seems to think.

First, there is no obligation to "explain" God's actions. The fact that we can't understand His purpose is only evidence of OUR lack of omniscience, not His. It makes as much sense to say that because we cannot definitively explain how the universe came into being, the Big Bang Theory is impossible.

Second, most Christians are not fundamentalists. They recognize culture's influence on the Bible, and come to their own conclusions regarding its accuracy.

And third, why wouldn't bad things happen to good people? The Bible makes no promises of a reward in this lifetime, only after death. To make this life into a simplistic system of reward and punishment would short-circuit free-will, stunt our personal growth, and effectively turn us into nothing more than lap dogs.
